Staying at a bed and breakfast inn can be a welcomed change from an impersonal hotel or even a motel as you travel by car. They can be many things, including romantic and charming. But if you have never stayed at a bed and breakfast, there are a few things you should know before you make a reservation. The following are a few of the most important things to understand.
Many bed and breakfast inns do not allow pets
It's a simple phone call to find out their policy on pets. Some establishments will allow a small dog, for example, while others may not allow any pets at all. And don't think about sneaking a small dog into a bed and breakfast. They are not cheap motels that you can skirt the issue of pets without detection.
Not every bed and breakfast has modern conveniences
These are not hotels. Some of the things you may assume they have may not exist. But this is part of their charm for many people, especially couples. What you may think should exist everywhere, may not be included here. For example, if you need WiFi, you need to ask ahead of time. You may not find it at every bed and breakfast. For that matter, you may not find a television in every bed and breakfast. People often like to get away for a day or two, and part of getting away is not having everyday distractions.
There are many possible locations
There are bed and breakfast inns found alongside highways and in large cities, but they also exist in remote areas. These latter types can be relaxing, but you need to know about the security of the location. When they are located in wooded areas, you should ask about the safety of walking near the inn. In some areas, wild animals can be a problem.
There are a wide range of amenities
You need to make sure you understand everything you are getting for the price of the bed and breakfast. Obviously, you will get breakfast, but what is on the menu? You may have found a great location for a weekend retreat, but not like their limited breakfast choices. In addition, some of them will serve lunch as well as breakfast, and if you are staying a second night, you may be able to eat dinner as well.
For the first-time bed and breakfast patron, you should ask many questions. These establishments are much different than other places you have stayed the night. They are not likely to have many of the comforts you are used to, and they may not allow your pet. They are located in a variety of places. Some of them may not satisfy you. And because there are various amenities, you need to ask about everything that is included.
